Along with our other sound science experiment, we got to shake it up with some eggs. The students shook eggs and had to figure out what objects were inside. No matching this time, just hard listening. The students glued down the object pictures they thought were in the eggs. This was such a fun experiment for the students! They worked really hard to match the sounds to what the objects in the pictures were made of. The most fun was opening the eggs to see if they were correct!

Sound Cups of Science
Sound isn't always very exciting. But I wanted to make sure my students were really understanding that different objects create different noises. In this experiment, there are sixteen (yogurt) cups with eight different objects. There are eight matches the students try to find as they are shaking them. They use their chart to describe the sound and then try to find the matches. They loved trying to see how good their ears were!

Shake It, Shake It, Listen!
Today, students were given a table full of items with which to make NOISE!! As they chose eight different items, they filled out a chart. This chart had students list their item, how they made it make noise, and what it sounded like.
We also discussed the different sounds we hear in everyday life:

Eggs Full of Sound
EGG-cellent Sound!
I put my students hearing to the test today! I had twelve plastic eggs packed with a variety of items: dice, marshmallows, pennies, cotton, thread, rice, toothpicks, key, marbles, macaroni, paperclips, and beans.
I put my students hearing to the test today! I had twelve plastic eggs packed with a variety of items: dice, marshmallows, pennies, cotton, thread, rice, toothpicks, key, marbles, macaroni, paperclips, and beans.
After listening to the the sounds the eggs made as they were shook, the students guessed which objects were in each egg. Some of the eggs were stumpers (thread, cotton, marshmallows)!
Say What?
We have moved into our SOUND unit in science!
To begin our unit on sound, we made a list of sounds we hear in our lives. We divided them into three categories: communication, enjoyment/entertainment, and danger sounds. The students made their own lists in their journals, then we paired & shared to make everyone's list longer.
Next, we made some noise!! I have a music instrument bag and brought some household items (spoons, forks, keys, etc.).
The students had a sheet to fill out as they made their wonderful sounds. They listed what object they chose, how they made it make noise, and what the noise sounded like.
