TACKLE THE TEST!

Our theme for Kansas State Assessments is TACKLE THE TEST!
To kick off the assessment season, they students signed up for the "draft", promising to show their best effort on our preparation and the assessments in March.

When the students are 'caught' showing that awesome effort, they earn a link. Student need to earn these links in order to attend 3rd Grade Effort Celebrations leading up to our assessments.

Our first Effort Celebration was last Wednesday. It was a "Training Day" theme with running dashes, bean bags, hula hoops, and jump ropes for the students to choose from. But what did they think was the best? That's right, rolling like logs down the hill! It was great to watch!

We're Going On A Text Feature Hunt!

As we prepare for Kansas State Assessments, we discuss and review each of our 3rd grade indicators. This week we are reviewing Text Features. Text Features include things within text that help a reader better understand: graphs & charts, headings & sub-headings, caption & labels, boldface print, italic print, table of contents, glossary, and index.

The students have also reviewed these Text Features in Library. With their extensive background knowledge, I decided it was time for a SCAVENGER HUNT! The students were assigned certain Text Features and given magazines in which to find them. We made posters of their found Text Features. Enjoy!

Blogging Beginnings

Welcome to my blog! This is my first post of my new blog! I began it to keep the parents of my students informed to the happenings of our classroom and to share education ideas. I hope you enjoy my blog and find it helpful in your own classroom!

A little bit about me: This year (2011-2012) is my fourth year teaching third grade and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I graduated from the University of Kansas in 2008 with my teaching degree and began teaching in Gardner, Kansas (just south of Kansas City). We are a mid-sized district with 6 elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school. It is wonderful to have the small-town feel so close to a bigger city. My husband and I enjoy Blazer football games on Friday nights in the fall and walks around town when the weather allows for it.

Thanks for stopping by!
