Persuasive 3rd Graders

This week, the students were asked "What could you change about our school?" We brainstormed improvements we would like to see at our school. The students formed opinions and created arguments for their change. Then, we wrote persuasive essay letters to our principal about the changes.

Here are a few of the letters (we worked on a little bit of schmoozing):

Dear Principal, You are the greatest principal in this school! Can we please have more recess? Like two hours more. We will get more exercise. And we will make our bones stronger!

Dear Principal, We love you as our principal! We would like more recess please! We like to have more fun. Can you please try to get us more recess? Some of us boys really like to do more sports. We would really like more recess!! Please give us more recess!

Dear Principal, You are the best principal! Could you change recess to be an hour long? At the morning and at the end of the day. Because everybody loves recess and want at least a little bit more. I wish we could go outside when it is winter because it would be so fun. But we still would have to have a heavy coat, gloves, hats, mittens, and earmuffs. And recess is a very fun exercise! You get a lot of Vitamin D. I appreciate all your kind work.

(notice a theme yet?!)

Dear Principal, You are the best principal ever! If you add 20 more minutes of lunch, kids will eat more and won't get really hungry! I'm hungry sometimes after lunch. You will also be a better principal if you add 20 more minutes of lunch, please!

Dear Principal, I am so happy to have an awesome principal! The Letter C (lunch) is ok, but I think it should be pizza because almost everyone likes pizza. Also because if they don't like lunch A or B, the can always have C which is pizza. So I will let you think about it. Thank you very much for your time!

Persuasive, aren't they?!
